"During the ""Estivales des Côtes du Rhône"", every Thursday in June , ""Avignon Tourisme"" and ""Les Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône"" take you on trip back in time, in the Popes' Vineyard.
Your experience begins with a tour of the famous Popes' Palace, with a focus on medieval gastronomy and wine : find out about the lavish banquets and their menus, the catering services , the importance of wine , its meaning in religious ceremonies and what do the grapevines in some frescoes represent.
Then, in the Petit Palais Museum, you will be presented a couple of Italian master-paintings illustrating the concept of Transubstantiation and Eucharist.
And finally, you will be received by a Compagnon des Côtes du Rhône in the vineyard they planted by the Cathedral and usually closed to the public. He will share with a glass of wine and all his secrets about grape-growing, while you enjoy the splendid views on the river Rhône, the Avignon bridge, Villeneuve Lez Avignon and Châteauneuf du Pape.
Your afternoon will end at the « Agricol Perdiguier» public garden where you will have the opportunity to meet more wine makers and eventually try their wines in a musical atmosphere.
